We recently caught up with the amazing Yara Shahidi and had the pleasure of asking her a number of questions, and to be honest, her answers were a reminder of why we are totally obsessed with her.
We hope you enjoy...
Name: Yara Sayeh Shahidi
What do you feel like your authentic way of serving the world is? As a humanitarian, philanthropy has been integral in my life and the life of my family. I find I'm most effective through public speaking and helping educate and spread awareness about the beauty of diversity and what we as gen Z can do to break barriers.
What would you like to see more of in 2017? More love, less walls
Who do you look up to and why? I am inspired by many of the people I come in to contact with. One thing my parents have instilled in me is that everyone has something to teach us and that in truly taking interest in other people you will learn more about yourself and the world around you.
Name one of your goals for 2017: Whats one thing that inspires you and reminds you of your greatness? Finish college apps help solidify national initiatives to make sure that the USA can be a creative and safe space for all people, especially in times like these.
Whats one thing that inspires you and reminds you of your greatness? Looking at all of my family's accomplishments as well as listening to James Baldwin speak, I'm reminded of my own potential.
Whats a trigger that makes you forget who you are or gets you down? Amidst the madness, it's important for me to read books for pleasure (whether it's Their Eyes Were Watching God or Candid by Voltaire). When I forget to take time for my personal interests I sometimes forget to step back from the beautiful chaos and take a moment.
Favorite song/album right now: Dear Theodosia reprise by Chance the Rapper on the Hamilton mixtape!
Favorite accessory: A great arm of bracelets! They jingle when I talk and make my presence known.
